What keeps me on the edge is the fact that we have deer and elk that like to come out at night, although the seem to move more at dusk.Lancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02458096347718242672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-28244042521773188102010-06-14T10:25:16.535+12:002010-06-14T10:25:16.535+12:00Night riding when its fine is great fun - when its...Night riding when its fine is great fun - when its pelting down Im not such a fan :) Loving your informative posts Geoff.

ps. As a matter of interest, there's an annual night mountain bike event near us. Some of the guys who used special mercury vapour discharge lamps found to their cost that they don't light up greenery anywhere near as well as halogen - quite a few "offs" into the shrubbery.

Anthony:
You have a great bike there - really versatile and even better, lots of farkles available in Aussie for them. I got to the point where I just accepted that the beam on the scooter was the best I had and I just had to put up with it, but now with the Suzuki, night riding is no problem at all.Anthonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07158034455791059826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-36493486202879682712010-06-12T20:35:59.826+12:002010-06-12T20:35:59.826+12:00Great post, I used to do a fair bit of mountain bi...Great post, I used to do a fair bit of mountain biking and a few of the guys I used to ride with loved to ride our local trails in the dark, despite knowing every inch of the trails the lights they used throw up odd shadows and make slight undulations seem like massive chasms. I have found the same to be true about Motorcycling in the dark, you can have yourself a cracking ride out on fairly ordinary roads at fairly ordinary pace just because the headlights give a focused view point.Mr Bunglehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16631346036519083344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-4160917634542899842010-06-12T17:31:23.345+12:002010-06-12T17:31:23.345+12:00Excellent post. My night vision is not the best, and we have deer and bears in the area, that love to cross the road especially at dawn, hence I try to be home before dark.SonjaMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12389245948579828531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-40396150431488038062010-06-12T11:55:16.394+12:002010-06-12T11:55:16.394+12:00Geoff:

Other times it's been sheer misery - June bugs, cold temperatures, rain(!) all make night riding that much more difficult and miserable.
But I agree that headlight brightness makes all the difference. If you're going to ride at night, make sure you can see and be seen!Canajunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17529505799866207528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-91845171436109259422010-06-12T10:45:55.268+12:002010-06-12T10:45:55.268+12:00Andrew:

Riding solo this year as some mates have piked.

I'm running Phillips Extreme vision +80's in the Connie and they are fantastic! I kid you not, on a straight bit of road, a fluro sign can be picked up at at least 800m - up close the reflection can be quite bright.
