Breeding them in captivity and releasing them when the wild population has disappeared entirely may sound extreme, but it may be the only solution.

Cheeky madam! Actually, you may not be far from the truth - the animals outside were probably responding to us!Geoff Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05041523109817248619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-67159277392894282652013-02-23T05:16:24.889+13:002013-02-23T05:16:24.889+13:00Ahhh Geoff, it sounds like you and Jennie are havi...Ahhh Geoff, it sounds like you and Jennie are having so much fun.

Thanks for sharing all of the pictures. I've never seen the opal in it's natural state before. I can only imagine the colors up close.

So sad about the Devils. Makes you wonder what the heck would give them facial cancer. Sure hope the refuge can help them make a come back.

I had to laugh at your comment about listening to 'squeaks, snuffles and grunts' - I figured after all that walking those sounds would be coming from the cabin, not outside.

Trobairitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03453398807198746434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-71165478180974689002013-02-22T20:20:41.771+13:002013-02-22T20:20:41.771+13:00Steve,

It's more than likely that locals don't venture very far or fast after dark.

With respect to snakes, when our eldest son lived in Melbourne and was going for an early morning jog on the Mornington Peninsula, when he actually stepped on a Brown. Fortunately, it was still sluggish but I guess you have to be really careful. Guess you've got Funnel Web spiders where you live too!Geoff Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05041523109817248619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-15964982254344370822013-02-22T20:10:02.467+13:002013-02-22T20:10:02.467+13:00If you hit one of those wombats in the car you'...If you hit one of those wombats in the car you'll write your car off, they are like hitting bolders.

Don't count on the snakes getting out of your way, that very walking track about 300m from the boulder you are standing on a snake slithered across our path within 5m of us, with us frozen in place with our 18 month old girl on the track with us. It was a scarey moment make no mistake.

Those cabins in the scrub are great, our daughter loved seeing the paddy melons and wombats running around the cabins as did we.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10160712689280276620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-21497417645336438602013-02-22T19:23:06.850+13:002013-02-22T19:23:06.850+13:00Hi Brenda,

Would certainly like to have a look.

Well, that was a bonus, wasn't it? Maybe you've discovered a bit of heritage machinery!Geoff Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05041523109817248619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-71843269101476614272013-02-22T19:08:03.259+13:002013-02-22T19:08:03.259+13:00Hey Geoff that wildlife is exciting, I've only...Hey Geoff that wildlife is exciting, I've only ever seen a wombat in the wild once and he was scampering away from us in some underbrush so didn't really see much of him. They're all awesome critters it's such a shame about the devils, I remember looking for them while we were there and not finding any either.

Love the opal, I've seen one like that in rough at Lightening Ridge and I agree they look better like that, Lightening Ridge is a facintating place to visit and the most beautiful opals in the world (I think it's the only place where black opals are found).

The jigger looks fun, and thanks for posting that cause you just gave me the answer to what one of the things was that I found in a shed in Parkes .. one of those but smaller and less loved. And I was thinking it was a weird looking farm bike :-DBrendahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06395364582355269753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4341114511830074977.post-66150519047124247252013-02-22T13:40:18.210+13:002013-02-22T13:40:18.210+13:00Rog,
